Juror Statement : Chris Alveshere

 

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to review all of the works submitted for Playground, from artists around the country and internationally, in varying stages of their careers. The diversity in submitted works was inspiring, with great skill and innovation through the creation and use of materials by all artists invited to this show. 26 artists who created utilitarian and sculptural works were chosen to fill the gallery with an overwhelming sense of color and energy. Many of the selected pieces embody form and surface which allude to that of a jungle gym: arches, curves, tubes, tunnels, bold colors, and monkey bars.
